Green tyre (uncured rubber): what it is and what it is used for

Green Tire Without Thread, caucho crudo sin vulcanizar sin refuerzo textil

Green tyre, also called uncured rubber, is one of the most valuable and least understood materials in the rubber recycling trade. It is often confused with end-of-life tyres, but they are not the same thing. Green tyre is not a used tyre that gets shredded: it is raw material that leaves the tyre factory before curing. Here is what it is, how it differs from recycled rubber, and why so many processors look for it. As a trader based in Spain, we supply it nationally and for export worldwide.

What is green tyre (uncured rubber)?

It is the rubber compound already mixed and calendered at the factory, but that has not yet gone through vulcanization, the heat and pressure curing that gives a tyre its final properties. Because it is not vulcanized, it stays plastic and can be reprocessed: remixed, moulded or transformed. That is impossible with rubber that has already been cured. It is generated as post-industrial scrap: trimmings, pieces rejected before curing, calendering offcuts. In other words, tyre-grade material at recycled cost that never rolled on the road.

Green tyre vs end-of-life tyres (ELT)

This is the most common confusion, and it matters because it changes the price and the use. End-of-life tyres have already been used and are vulcanized; they are shredded or granulated into crumb rubber and tyre-derived fuel. Green tyre, on the other hand, was never a tyre in use: it is uncured, reprocessable material with its properties intact. If ELT is the end of life, green tyre is the beginning of life.

Types of green tyre

  • Green tyre without thread (no textile reinforcement), ideal for compounding and technical products.
  • Car green tyre with tread, which keeps the tread compound and is rejected before curing.
  • Uncured rubber with steel cord, for reinforced applications such as belts and hoses.

What it is used for

Because it keeps its properties, green tyre goes straight into value processes. It is reincorporated into new compounds, moulded into technical parts such as soles, seals and profiles, and in the reinforced grades it is used for retreading and conveyor belts. It is also a good feedstock for granulation, devulcanization and pyrolysis, where its homogeneity gives better results than shredded used tyres.

Who buys it

Rubber recyclers and compounders, manufacturers of technical parts, belt and hose makers, and granulation or pyrolysis plants looking for a cleaner, more consistent feedstock.

Buying and exporting green tyre

A serious buyer looks at the grade, the homogeneity and cleanliness of the material, traceability of origin and continuity of supply. At 3BYT Consorcio we work as a trader and selector of green tyre with origin in Spain: we find the grade that fits your process, validate its quality and ship it in the volumes you need, in Spain and for export worldwide.

Frequently asked questions

Can green tyre be vulcanized?

Yes. As it is uncured, it can be processed and vulcanized within a new formulation, something that is no longer possible with cured rubber.

Is green tyre the same as recycled rubber?

No. Green tyre is uncured factory material; recycled rubber comes from used tyres that are shredded or granulated.

Is it suitable for pyrolysis?

Yes, and it usually gives better results than used tyres because it is cleaner and more homogeneous.
